Late September to November and March to early May are the ideal times to visit Phoenix and Scottsdale. These months offer a perfect climate for outdoor activities and poolside relaxation. Scottsdale is one of many cities located in the Valley of the Sun, where there are more than 330 days of sunshine a year. The long summer season, from May to September, is divided into two parts: dry summer and humid summer.

The dry summer has very high temperatures, low humidity and no precipitation. The humid summer or monsoon season lasts from July to mid-September, with short thunderstorms at the end of the day and strong winds. In autumn, precipitation ends and temperatures begin to drop. Winter is cooler with occasional frost warnings, but no snow.

The best time to visit Scottsdale is in spring, when temperatures are pleasant for outdoor activities. We recommend that you call attractions and restaurants prior to your visit to confirm current opening hours. January to April is our best weather and special event season. It's still our winter, so occasionally there are temperatures that drop to 50 and below, but it's generally considered our peak season and the valley is crowded.

Summer is “off season” in Scottsdale. This makes it the best time of year to plan a getaway to one of the area's luxury resorts, as they offer some of their best deals in the summer months. Mostly there are tourists flocking to Scottsdale while the locals leave for the summer. The tourist score favors clear, rain-free days with perceived temperatures between 65° F and 80° F. Cabin rentals are often only available to hotel guests, but a couple of hotels (such as the Valley Ho Hotel, Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa, and Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa) also allow non-guests to book cabins for the day. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa and the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa all have huge pool complexes.

Scottsdale is known for its luxury resorts, luxury shopping and golf courses, but Old Town Scottsdale is the heart of the city. With its luxury resorts offering great deals during off-season months and its many attractions open year-round, you can't go wrong with a trip to this sunny city.
